I'm getting used to this!

'get used to' is a grammar that many students find hard to use in their speaking. Look at how it's used in 2 different songs.

It looks similar to the other grammar 'used to' but the meaning is totally different.

used to

a habit you did in the past but no longer do in the present

get used to

If you get used to something or someone, you become familiar with it or get to know them, so that you no longer feel that the thing or person is unusual or surprising. > This is how we do things here. You'll soon get used to it. > He took some getting used to. > You quickly get used to using the brakes.

Listen to the song 'Someone you loved' by Lewis Capaldi. Listen without the subtitles. Can you hear where he sings 'get used to'? Write down the sentence. Listen a few times before you turn on the subtitles. What does he mean? Why is he saying that?

Another song!

Listen to this other song by George Ezra. Where does he sing 'get used to'? What does he mean?
